St Luke's School

Industrial Action: Monday 14th Jan & Tuesday 15th Jan

School is closed Monday 11.30 till 1pm.  School Office is closed all day Tuesday.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Industrial Action

As you may be aware, two Civil Service unions have notified us that they are asking some civil servants to strike on Monday, 14 January and Tuesday, 15 January.  On Monday this will have an impact on our school over the lunchtime period. On Tuesday the school office will be closed for all but emergencies – all communication will need to be directed via email (a.turner@stluke.sch.je).

I am writing to you to give you advance notice so that you can prepare the necessary arrangements for your child/children.

Due to insufficient staff to cover the safety and supervision of children during the lunchbreak, we will have to close the school during this period.

This will mean that parents will need to pick up their children during the day and drop them back to the school at a specified time (please see below).

I am committed to doing everything I possibly can to avoid the interruption of the learning of our children but my main priority is for their safety at school. I must ensure that there are safe levels of supervision and that first aid trained staff are available. I also need to ensure that all risk assessments are taken into account.

As you would expect, our school, working closely with the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills, has been busy preparing contingency plans ahead of this proposed industrial action.

The situation as of today, Thursday 10 January, is:

St Luke’s school will partly close on:

Monday, 14 January between 11.30 and 1pm – Parents/carers will need to pick up their child/children at 11.30 and drop them back at 1pm.

As a consequence, I urge you to prepare by making your own necessary childcare, work and any other arrangements for the proposed industrial action next Monday, 14 January and Tuesday, 15 January.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,

Mr Adam Turner
